| How to Submit Photos to the Website |
| |
| If you would like to submit photos for the website, please read the following guidelines... |
| |
| 1. |
Set your camera at the highest resolution. This allows for cropping and straightening. |
| 2. |
Check your camera date. This allows for getting the correct date the photos were taken. However, do not show the date on the photo. |
| 3. |
Check your flash. This may eliminate dark photos. |
| 4. |
Start with a photo that sets the stage...location sign, scenic overview, view of general area. Move in to take specifics...team, individuals, building, etc. |
| 5. |
Do not submit photos that are dark, grainy, out of focus, severely crooked, contain unrecognizable people, or contain the same people multiple times. |
| 6. |
Copy the photos to a CD, label it with your name/date/location/event/etc. Go to a meeting. Give the CD to any Board Member. They will be sure to give it to the appropriate website person. |
| How to Start Something New |
| |
| If you have an idea that you think other Ski Club members would like to do, here's how you can do it... |
| |
| 1. |
Who's in Charge Here?: Make sure you have someone who is willing to lead the event/sport/whatever and take responsibility for it. They will be the point-of-contact for the Chairperson for the area. |
| 2. |
The Ski Club as a Facilitator: Is your idea something that costs nothing, doesn't involve sign-ups, and is just people with a common interest doing something? Then maybe an announcement in the TRACK Personals will be enough. If so, write up a brief description (2-3 sentences) and ask the Editor to print it for you for 1-2 issues. Be aware that personals are on an "available space" basis and only equal opportunity items will be printed. |
| 3. |
The Ski Club as a Sponsor: If it involves money, such as entering a team in the Columbus Ultimate Frisbee league, then you need to have a budget and Board approval. The minute you want Club support or the right to use the Club name, you need Board approval. This isn't a bad thing because if approved, you can get funds up front to get started, free publicity in the TRACK, free publicity on the website, and space at a table for sign-ups at membership meetings. |
| 4. |
Getting Started: First, find out if there are a reasonable number of people interested...maybe half of an Ultimate Frisbee team. Then contact the Chairperson for the area. This can be found in the Club Overview section of the website under "Club Boards and Committees". If there is no Chairperson, contact the Board Member. For Ultimate Frisbee, you would contact the Board member since there is no overall sports chairperson. |
| 5. |
Gathering Data: In the "How to Do Stuff" section (where you're reading this right now) click on the "Sports" entry. See all the items you need to know before you can get approval? Jot them down and close the e-mail without sending it. Fill in as many as you can, but realize that this list is from the participant's viewpoint, not the person in charge which is you. For instance, find out what an Ultimate Frisbee team franchise costs, how many people can be on the roster, where they play, etc. Note: If a level of expertise is expected, then include the word "Competitive" in the name of the event. If not, then it's first-come, first-served. |
| 6. |
Presenting Information: Armed with this information, e-mail the Chairperson/Board member and express your interest in starting an Ultimate Frisbee Competitive team (or Lacrosse team or rowing team or archery event or pumpkin carving event or whatever) and that you have the details. You can also meet with the person at membership meetings to do this if you prefer face-to-face meetings. |
| 7. |
Encouragement: The Ski Club encourages members to suggest new activities. It is a way to expand the Club to serve the interests of all members. It might sound like this is a long process, but if you are prepared with the right information, this can take only a few minutes. And there are always people who can help you if you need it. Good luck! See you at the fronton for the partidos. |
