CSC Race Team Information: 2009-2010

Whatever level skier you are, The Columbus Ski Club Learn-To-Race Program will help you take your skiing to the next level, make new friends and make Skiing Ohio Fun!

Dry Land Training: Take the first step to improving your skiing by participating in the Dry Land Conditioning. Tom Crawford (of Crawford Medical Group and a top Columbus Racer) leads these ski-specific conditioning workouts to prepare your muscles for the upcoming ski season. It is also a great place to get all of your racing questions asked and answered! There is no fee for this activity.  The Dry Land Training is held at Griggs Reservoir at the Griggs boat launch parking area just south of Fishinger Road off Route 33 every Sunday (snow/rain or shine) during the fall up to the first Sunday in December from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. First workout session is October 4th, 2009.

Organization: The Columbus Race Team is directed by a 10-member Committee which is dedicated to making each race season enjoyable for all participants. Our home resort is
Mad River Mountain, located in Bellefountain, Ohio, a one-hour ride from Columbus.

Skiing/Race Practices: These lessons alone are worth the cost of the program. Numerous practices are scheduled mostly Friday nights from mid-December into February, with some on Saturday mornings (check the schedule). Classes are small and are led by at least one trained Mad River Mountain Racing coach. Basic skills required for improved Skiing and Racing are emphasized during the lessons!

Racing: Don't be intimidated! If you want to step up to the next level or even get better for those big mountains out west, racing is sure to help you! Competition is friendly and fun! Races are scheduled every weekend from the first of January through the first of March. Most of the races will take place on the Ski Club's home hill of
Mad River Mountain.

More Bang For Your Buck: This year the majority of our races will be held at
Mad River Mountain. This makes buying a season pass much more economical. In addition, traveling expenses will be limited to the short drive to Mad River Mountain. No more over-nights a million miles away!

Participation: The racing program is for everyone's enjoyment! You can participate as much or as little as you wish. You are encouraged to attend practices and races as much as possible but nothing is required. Everyone is encouraged to put this trip on their schedule because it is guaranteed to be a great time! (See schedule for details)

Sign Me Up: Sign-up night for the 2009-2010 race season begins October 21, 2009 and goes on throughout the race season. If you sign up, you will get 5+ race practices and clinics, 30+ races, the On-the-Slope Party, an End-of-the-Season Party, and the Pre-Season Party.

Sign-up fees entitle the racer to participate in Friday night practices, ski in scheduled races on Saturdays and Sundays and borrow a racing bib for the season. Other fun activities are planned such as a cook out at the top of the hill after the last race of the year and an end of the season blow out to recognize the outstanding performances of the year. Lift tickets are not included in these costs.
Mad River Mountain does offer a variety of package discounts. Race Team members must be members of the Columbus Ski Club.
