Social Softball Description
Sign-ups for Social Softball are at the meeting on Jan 6, 2010
Proving that Skiing and Softball can exist on the same virtual highway.
Social softball is the largest single activity in the Ski Club. Over 25% of the Club, in excess of 350 people, play softball during the summer. Each player is rated and the teams are balanced so that no team has a skill advantage. Teams do
not
stay together year-after-year. All participants are distributed onto new teams every year. This gives people the opportunity to meet new people on their team.
The number of teams and leagues varies each year depending on the number of sign-ups. In general, there are at least 24 teams, each with seven men, seven women, plus others on each team. The teams are divided into leagues which, in turn, are divided into divisions. Each team plays at least ten regular season games against their league opponents. They only play against other Ski Club teams, and if the weather remains nice, extra games are scheduled.
At the end of the regular season, a Tournament is held for all the teams no matter what their record is. Teams are seeded into bracket positions, but more on that later. Suffice it to say that the team that wins the Tournament has bragging rights for a whole year.
