 FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I join the Columbus Ski Club?
A: You can contact the Ski Club office at P.O. Box 134, Brice, Ohio 43109-0134, or call the office at 481-SNOW, or sign up at a Ski Club meeting. Membership Application can be printed out from this website under Club Overview and mailed with the membership fee to the address listed above.

Q: When are Ski Club meetings held?
A: Ski Club meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, September through April and on the 3rd Wednesday, May through August.

Q: Where are Ski Club meetings held?
A: Ski Club meetings are held at the Sanese Services, 6465 Busch Blvd, Columbus, Ohio

Q: How much does it cost to be a member?
A: The cost is $29 per year for each person. There is no separate fee for couples, new members, etc. Being a member by the 3rd Wednesday in October ensures your eligibility for the upcoming softball season and your appearance in the new Club directory. If you sign-up after June 1st, your fee is still $29, but your expiration date is a year from the following August.

Q: What time are the meetings held at on meeting nights?
A: A meeting with the Ski Club President for new and perspective members for that evening begins at 7:00 p.m. All members meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for the social hour. Sometimes there are presentations, sometimes not.

Q: Can my children join and participate in the Columbus Ski Club?
A: Members must be at least 21 years of age, but children can participate in the Ski Club Racing program or Learn-to-Ski program if a parent is a member in good standing provided the parent is present at each event in which the child (or children) participate.

Q: Can I participate in any Ski Club event without becoming a member?
A: The Columbus Ski Club meetings, Parties, and Friday Afters are open to all, but to sign up for a social event, sports activity, or trip you must be a member.

Q: If I become a member, to what am I entitled?
A: Club activities for Sports, Trips, and Events are open only to Columbus Ski Club members, so you must be a member to participate. Additionally, membership includes a Directory of Columbus Ski Club members, and a subscription to the TRACK, the Club newsletter, which is mailed once per month and also e-mailed one week before every meeting. During September to April a second TRACK issue is available ONLINE.

Q: I’m a 23-year-old female attorney. Will I be able to meet anyone of similar age and interests?
A: You bet! The Columbus Ski Club has about 1,400 members with a wide variety of occupations and interests. The membership is comprised of approximately half males and half females ranging in age from 21 to over 65.

Q: Do I have to ski to be a member?
A: Absolutely not! The Columbus Ski Club has activities for all interests. Hundreds of our members are not skiers. See the Sports, Social, and Non-Ski Trips sections in this website.

Q: How do I sign-up to participate in activities?
A: Sign-ups for all Ski Club activities take place at Ski Club meetings. The TRACK contains sign-up dates and information. Some very popular activities fill-up on the 1st night of sign-ups with people signing up later going on a Waiting List.

Q: How do I find out about Club activities?
A: As a Club member, the Club newsletter, the TRACK, is mailed and/or e-mailed to your home. During September to April a second TRACK issue is available online since there are 2 meetings per month during those months. The TRACK issues are available before each meeting. The TRACK includes the activity sign-up information, calendar of events, and names & phone numbers of key contacts.

Q: What if more people sign-up than can participate in the activity?
A: If more people sign-up on the 1st night than can participate, a lottery method of selection takes place at the meeting. Assured participants are notified for immediate payment, and wait-listed persons are numbered in order of selection. This assures a fair selection is conducted. Any activity that is full will add names to a Waiting List upon payment of a deposit. After the initial night of sign-ups, people are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Q: Is there any way to be assured of participation in a wait-listed activity?
A: Signing-up for an activity on the 1st night sign-ups begin, being a paid member in good standing, and making the required payment on the night of sign-ups is the best way of assuring participation.

Q: How can I become involved in the Club once I join?
A: The CSC is made up of all volunteers. If you would like to become more involved after you join, contact the Board Member or Chairperson in charge of whatever activity (ies) you wish to help with. Be sure to express your interest in the space provided on the membership application, or e-mail the Club at info@columbusskiclub.org. By the way, becoming involved is the best way to meet people.

Q: Can my business advertise in Ski Club?
A: Yes, indeed! You can advertise on the website. For rates, deadlines, and other information, contact the Ski Club office at 481-SNOW or e-mail the TRACK editor (see the Club Overview section). Also, the Ski Club Directory reaches 1,400 members and is updated annually. It contains a section for business listings and 1/4, 1/2, and full-page ads at nominal rates. The deadline for including ads for the Directory is October 1. Contact the Membership Chairperson or Board Member for more information.

Q: Will I be safe on all Club activities?
A:
While medical emergencies are rare, the Club recognizes the importance of keeping all their members safe whether on trips, at sporting activities, or at other Club activities. We encourage each member to complete the In Case of Emergency (ICE) info on the forms we provide and to produce their own personal ICE form by accessing >
http://www.medids.com/free-id.php<.
Q: Do I have to be a good skier to join ski activities?
A: Columbus Ski Club skiers run the gamut from "never skied before" to "extreme skiers". We have skiers of all sizes, shapes, styles, etc. who participate in Ski Racing, Learn-to-Ski, and ski trips. Come join the fun! And THINK SNOW!!
