Red Resort
IMPORTANT UPDATE! United Airlines cancelled us out on one of our flights, so we had to alter the dates of this trip from our original dates of (Jan. 29 - Feb. 5) to our new travel dates of (Jan. 28 - Feb. 4)
If you love to ski the Canadian Rockies - and who doesn’t - then this is the trip for you. Red Mountain is in Canada’s “Powder Highway” and is a short bus ride over the border from Spokane, Washington. This is a new ski experience for the club, but one that you are sure to love – think Revelstoke. Red has 4,200 acres of skiable terrain and an average snowfall of 300 inches spread over two mountains – Red and Grey - and is serviced by 7 chairlifts. The difficulty is about evenly split between beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert. You can check it out at www.redresort.com.
The trip includes air to Spokane, bus transportation to Red Mountain, lodging at the newly constructed Slalom Creek condos (ski-in, ski-out), complimentary daily guided mountain tours, and a 5-day lift ticket which includes 4 days at Red Mountain and 1 day at nearby Whitewater Ski Resort. A breakfast reception and an après ski reception is also included. We only have 28 spots for this trip, so don’t delay.
Valid passport is mandatory.
So you may ask yourself where is Red Mountain and why have I never heard of it? Good question! Red Mountain Resort started out in the 1920’s as the Red Mountain Ski Club built by the local miners for their own use. Located just outside Rossland, British Columbia in Canada, it is one of the oldest ski areas in North America. After several expansions, most notably the Grey Mountain expansion of 1,000 skiable acres in 2014, Red has emerged as a world class ski destination that maintains a laid back Canadian Rockies feel.
Our trip begins with a flight to Spokane, WA on United. Spokane is a relatively small airport and the chartered motor coach loads 50 feet from the baggage conveyor. It is about a 2.5 hour, low altitude drive through farms and ranchland to the Canadian border. Rossland, BC is 5 minutes north of the border and Red Mountain Resort is another 3 miles outside of town.
We will be staying at the Slalom Creek Condos at the base of Red Mountain in modern units equipped with granite & stainless kitchens, hot tubs on the balconies, and washer/dryers. Slalom Creek Condos rated 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor.
Red Mountain has 2,877 acres of lift serviced skiable terrain which makes it comparable in size to Jackson Hole or Breckenridge but Red also offers inbounds snow cat skiing on Mount Kircup. The total amount of skiable terrain on the Red Mountain trail map is 4,200 acres. Red Mountain has a generous and complimentary mountain host program which offers a guided tour experience for skiers of all levels.
After a couple of days of groomers, powder shots and glades at Red we will take a one-day excursion to Whitewater Ski Resort in nearby Nelson, BC. After skiing at Whitewater we will visit scenic Nelson on the Columbia River for an evening of shopping, sightseeing, dining and/or drinking.
The trip includes:
- Round-trip airfare from Columbus to Spokane, WA on United Airlines
- Round-trip chartered bus transfers between Spokane and Red Mountain
- 7 nights lodging at Slalom Creek
- Lift Tickets: 4-days Red Mountain and 1-day Whitewater
- One-day excursion to Whitewater Ski Resort and scenic Nelson, BC
- Red Mountain Welcome breakfast reception
- Après Ski Reception
- Complimentary daily guided mountain tours
- Price: $1,480 for the full trip (air, lodging, transfers, lift tickets, and more)
